"We needed somewhere central to explore the fringe festival that didn't break the bank, this ticked all the boxes! The 24hr reception was a godsend, so we got there early doors & put our bags in reception for a fiver & didn't check in until midnight so that we didn't miss any planned shows having to come back & check in at 3pm. Student dig rooms so obviously not too spacious, but suited us fine, only complaint would be the heat, extremely warm in the room, but leaving the window open means you here the trains all night so not ideal.Fans were available to hire at reception though in case our become too much, which or didn't for us thankfully."

"This is not a 5 star hotel! I have to be honest, I have stayed in many 5 star hotels across Asia and to come to Scotland I had hoped for better. I booked this hotel for two nights with my daughter who is in her 20’s. Check in was swift and the twin room we were allocated was basic and not very big. Our room overlooked the Usher Hall and Castle. Breakfast the first morning was very disappointing. There is no buffet breakfast, only al a carte. You were to choose a starter eg. Porridge, overnight oats and then a main: full cooked breakfast, pancakes with bacon. However, all the food came together, which meant that if we’d eaten the yogurt first, the main courses would have been cold. I complained to two different servers and neither of them offered so much as an apology. To use the One Spa, you have to have booked a spa room or pay extra…definitely not worth it. This should be included for all rooms. Don’t book this hotel, there are many better hotels in Edinburgh for the same if not less money."

"The Balmoral Hotel exceeded all expectations. The location is unbeatable — right in the heart of Edinburgh with stunning views of the city. The room was elegantly furnished, spotlessly clean, and incredibly comfortable. Staff were attentive, professional, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The amenities were top-notch and the overall atmosphere was one of timeless luxury. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a premium stay in Edinburgh. Will definitely return!"

"This is the noisiest hotel among the more than 50 hotels I have stayed in this year. When I checked in, I specifically asked the staff to give me a quiet room because I didn't sleep well, and they promised me that they could. I don't know why they arranged the worst room for me. The bedside made a loud noise from around 12 o'clock in the evening until 7:30 the next morning. I couldn't sleep all night! I don't know how it was rated 5 stars. It's far from 5 stars. The photos and the building I stayed in are not the same at all."

From the moment we arrived, Novotel Edinburgh set the tone with a level of warmth and professionalism that genuinely stood out. The staff were incredibly helpful throughout and what really demonstrated this was a small but telling moment: we lost our key card during the stay, and it was replaced immediately, without any fuss or inconvenience whatsoever. It's the kind of effortless service that puts you completely at ease, and it's something you remember long after checkout. The breakfast deserves a special mention — it was simply top notch. The spread was so good that holding back was near impossible, and it's the kind of breakfast that makes you actually look forward to the morning. Freshly prepared, well-stocked, and served with care — it's one of the best hotel breakfasts we've had. The location is outstanding. Sitting just a mile from Edinburgh Castle, you're right in the heart of one of the most iconic cities in the UK. Public transport couldn't be more convenient either buses are accessible right behind the hotel, making it incredibly easy to get around the city without needing a car at all. The one area that needs addressing is parking. The hotel's own car park is frequently full, which meant we had to use the nearby NCP instead. To the hotel's credit, they did provide a discount for the NCP - a thoughtful gesture that softened the inconvenience. However, it's worth noting for electric vehicle drivers: the EV charging at the NCP is painfully slow, so factor that into your plans if you're arriving in an electric car. A heads-up from the hotel at check-in would go a long way. Parking frustrations aside, Novotel Edinburgh is a brilliant base for exploring the city - exceptional staff, an unmissable breakfast, and a location that's hard to beat. We'd return without hesitation."

"The hotel is considerably in front of the Haymarket Station but can be walkable to Princes Street and to all other tourist spots. Our room was small for the two of us but we cant complain as it was clean. It has TV, aircon/heater, towels, and you can ask for disposable toothbrush in the reception. We enjoyed their free coffee and tea during our stay. The staff were also nice."
