"We’ve just stayed at Brooklands Guesthouse for the second time and once again absolutely loved it. It’s genuinely the best guesthouse/B&B we’ve stayed at, and we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the Lake District. Sue is a fantastic host and makes the whole stay feel incredibly welcoming. The accommodation is immaculate, breakfast is spot on, and there’s loads of personality and character to the place rather than it feeling like just another B&B. The location is brilliant too. Penrith is a perfect base and gateway into the Lake District, making it really easy to explore during the day while having somewhere lovely to come back to. We really can’t recommend Brooklands highly enough. After two stays it’s firmly become our go-to whenever we’re visiting the Lakes. Thanks again, Sue - we’ll be back!"

"Have been using this hotel as a stopover for travelling to and from Scotland since Noah was a boy ...but never again. Hotel is showing its age and like many others is tired ...but that is no excuse for it being filthy and smelly. Our first room 120 was hot as an oven as a/c broken and dirty.Room smelt awful and dirty also. Second room 118 and last room available was much the same... Deep dirt in and on the lift symbolises the level of care taken here. However what is really worrying is the state of the only air supply into the building and rooms (photos attached).....dirty , un-sanitised ,moldy and poorly maintained...! Premier inn management and their guest relations are irresponsible , arrogant and rude. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE"

"Host Vickie of Abbey House B&B definitely made our first trip to Penrith a truly memorable experience. She was prompt with our pre-arrival queries. We love our suite with the "Thoughtful Drawer", bathrobes and delicious breakfast spread. Bonus is also its convenient location to train and bus stations for day trip to Lake District as well as walking distance to village squares with quaint local-owned artisanal shops, markets, and diners. We wish we could have stayed longer than 2 nights. Thanks Vickie! ❤️"

YHA Helvellyn ★★

"I have just been looking to see the prices for mid-week stays at YHA Helvellyn. It would appear that up until the middle of March I can only book the whole hostel, and it has to be for a minimum of 2 nights. At £360 per night mid-week, that equals £720. This is probably a good deal for a large group, but for a 'Billy-no-Mates' lone hiker wanting to do Striding Edge that's a lot to cough up. Am I looking at this wrong? I know single supplements can be prohibitive but this seems excessive."
