The hotel is located in the very center of Shanghai, offering a fantastically beautiful view. There is direct access from the hotel to a huge shopping mall (mainly featuring high-end brands) and the metro. On the top floor, there’s a swimming pool—not very deep, but enough for a swim. The room had all the necessary amenities: a worn-out ironing board and iron (I had a similar one back in 2007), a drip coffee maker (without filters), and a dirty, shabby toaster. The internet, TVs, bathroom, and beds were excellent.
The downsides: there was a strong smell in the room and the corridors. This really bothered me, as it reminded me of the scent of an old grandmother’s closet where we used to play hide-and-seek. To me, it smelled like old carpets and rotting cloth. By the end of the week, I almost stopped noticing it, but when I unpacked my suitcase at home, I realized I had brought that smell back with me. Another downside is the cleanliness. On close inspection, there was plenty of dirt and dust in the corners and under the beds. The dishes were washed terribly, with food residue left on the forks.
The front desk staff are competent and speak decent English. There is a luggage storage facility as well.
