Travelodge Rugeley

We are a family of four and stayed at Travelodge Rugeley for one night as a stopover before continuing our road trip. The location was ideal for what we needed, which was the main reason we chose this hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel itself was a huge disappointment. The smell as soon as we entered the room was horrendous. The carpet had a strong damp/musty smell, which was impossible to ignore. We actually had to leave the window open all night just to make the room bearable because of the smell. The room also felt very dirty and dusty. When I checked the headboard, I was able to wipe away a significant amount of dust with my finger, leaving it visibly dirty. This really made us question how thoroughly the room had been cleaned. I was also uncomfortable with the mattress and ended up sleeping on top of the bedding rather than properly getting into the bed, as I simply didn’t feel confident about the cleanliness. We also weren’t aware when booking that the hotel was pet friendly. Unfortunately, the guests in the room next to us had a dog that barked throughout the night, which was extremely annoying and made it very difficult for our family to sleep. On top of that, because of the hotel’s location and having the window open all night, we could hear people outside throughout the night as well. Between the dog barking, people outside and the unpleasant smell, we had an extremely poor night’s sleep. The one positive was the receptionist, who was incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful. She was lovely and really did her best to make us feel welcome. Sadly, though, the cleanliness, damp smell and constant noise completely overshadowed the positives. We chose Travelodge for a simple overnight stop during our road trip, but unfortunately this was not the comfortable, clean and restful stay we expected.

We had an amazing experience. Laura was lovely! She was always smiling and wanting to help. Everyone was so accommodating and welcoming. The whole place was clean even with the construction. Rooms were spacious, fresh, organized. Thank you! Would absolutely go back!

Ill start off by saying the desk staff are amazing and have no problems with at all. Now I think the main issue is this hotel is severely outdated and in need of a renovation, everything is way past it use by date. Now the rooms is quite something, id suggest not looking too hard as you'll get 2nd thoughts and want to leave straight away I know I did. If you like clean environment id suggest going else where. My partner did try get this resolved via customer service email but once the images were sent they never replied, must be that bad that they didnt even have anything to say. Wish I never looked but hey when there black mould on the top sheet you kinda start to wonder. Im not expecting 5 star quality rooms or cleanliness its a 2 star hotel, however id expect my room to not look like a crime scene.

We stayed for a week staff were nice and friendly. I’m writing this based on our stay but aware a refurb is due shortly. Room was clean however room had a damp musky smell to it, once windows had been open for around 30mins the smell disappeared however being on the ground floor wasn’t ideal of a night as you didn’t want to leave them open and not hotels fault but some guests and people in the park behind were smoking not normal cigarettes and it would come in through the windows. eExtractor fans in the bathroom may help with the damp smell as even on a cool shower still generated a lot of steam and then it just settles in the room definitely needs more ventilation this should help reduce or remove the damp musky smell. Rooms are dated and need modernising hopefully the refurb helps with this, bath whilst there was an anti slip mat in it that could still become quite slippery and marks on the white bit at the back a good mould spray or bleach would remove those marks. Bedding definitely needs replacing as not much filling in pillows or quilt although with hot weather was grateful for the quilt being thin as no air con and just a small fan. Mattress needed replacing as stains and some springs were coming through. I had asked for fresh towels and bins emptied and left the sign out but it wasn’t done but the afternoon receptionist I asked gave us new towels and a black bag. Breakfast to go box wasn’t great and had no way to open the milk as need scissors to open it that needs looking at but would definitely advise bringing the other box back with yogurt orange juice and a croissant not everyone likes cereal. It’s a shame only one key per room and not having a proper door handle with how heavy the fire doors are would be better someone with limited mobility would find them especially difficult. We wasn’t in room one but definitely think the door from reception needs looking at as even when you tried to close it quietly it made a loud bang/slam and wouldn’t be nice to hear for whoever stayed in that room. Definitely need more than four plug sockets in the family rooms or the usb sockets need upgrading to the usbc sockets or a mixture as with four of us in there we had to rotate charging our phones. I think with a few upgrades it would make a huge difference.

First visited this Rugeley Travelodge in 1989!! decided to have a 2 night stay as part of a road trip to Hereford/Ross-on-wye/Blenheim Palace . The Lodge has had a significant refurb over the years, very good size & comfy double beds, excellent size rooms with small single bed for kids and super clean bathroom. This Travelodge does not have a bar/cafe but you have Subway, Burger King and a 24Hr petrol station with off-licence in the parking area and you are minutes walk from the town centre but that's another story!!. Tea/Coffee are provided in the room. The location is very quiet although only meters from a main road but very little overnight noise. Value for money this Travelodge is a bargain and a great stop off. There is a Morrisons and Tesco's both within about 10 mins walk. The best places to eat are out of town as well as the best pubs, the town centre pubs are very local to put it kindly!!. Lots of takeaway option within walking distance. If like us you are staying for a couple days, try the Heritage trail walk and stop off at the The Horns Inn excellent!. The canal walk up to where the canal crosses the Trent river is well worth a look!. Overall, the Travelodge is located in a great position central to Rugeley, great value and super clean. Having stayed in top luxury hotels in my life around the world why is this Travelodge marked 5 star?? its an absolute bargain leaving money to spend on entertainment!!.

Not the best, the rooms are run down and the town also. Duvets dirty and pillows are terrible.

Lovely stay at Rugeley Travelodge! Room was immaculate and staff were really helpful especially Laura and Louise! Will be back!

Would like to say how amazing this place is they have been my home for the last 3 weeks if I could give them 10 stars I would the staff are all so friendly its super clean all go above and beyond to help you ❤️

Really friendly and helpful staff. Comfy room. Plenty of place to eat and drink around town... and the reception staff will recommend places to suit your needs.
