Hotel San Valentino

We were welcomed by a friendly receptionist, which was unfortunately the only positive aspect of our stay. When using the elevator, we noticed that the mirror was broken, which immediately created a negative first impression. On our floor, the corridor was extremely narrow, making it very difficult to pass through with luggage. The housekeeper was in the hallway and shouted at us asking which room was ours. As we did not immediately understand, she responded in a rather rude manner, which was very uncomfortable. Upon entering the room, the strong smell of bleach was almost unbearable. The bed was sunken and we found hair on the sheets. The pillows were uncomfortable, and the walls, furniture, and bathroom showed visible signs of poor cleanliness. Given these conditions, the hotel does not meet the standards expected of a 3-star property. We did not feel comfortable staying and had to book alternative accommodation at our own expense.

First room door didn’t close and until I reached trip.com then I got moved to another room. However, the second room was the total opposite of first. Door didn’t open properly as floor was lifted maybe from humidity, the washroom tiles were falling off and the bar in the floor between washroom and bedroom kept moving and almost got cut by it. The wow of the first room was fast gone when we were given the second room. But I just needed a place to sleep and I didn’t want to have troubles or no place to stay in an unknown city. I just really wonder how they got 3 stars when other places I was with one or two stars were much better than this one.

Nice, straightforward stay at Hotel San Valentino. The rooms are simple but clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff was very welcoming. Great location for walking around the city!

Cheap but quite poor in terms of of room quality, and the hotel is old. I was assigned to Room 205 on night 1 (avoid it!!!) The 205 room: 1. had very strong odd smell 2. Outside the window had some dirty stuffs and poor view. 3. shower barrier for water didn’t work at all so the water spilled all over my room. 4. the shower can’t stay hot for long (you have to switch on the water tap at hot side for a min before switching on the shower for hot water, but even then they don’t stay hot consistently and you have to keep retrying during one session of bath. 5. A living cockroach was found in my room After my complaint I was able to change my room to 204 (which was much better, but the hot shower issue still existed and there was still a bit of that odd smell (not as strong) There is a restaurant directly connected to the hotel on ground floor. Location is about 20 minutes distance to Vatican, which is nice.

A nice hotel to stay as a couple with a very friendly staff. Everything was good, I would recommend.

Staff and location are great. It's the perfect distance from all great attractions. The mattress was too hard for my liking. The bathroom had mould growing on the ceiling. Should have left when I saw that.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed one night and booked last minute. They held our luggage in the morning while we explored the area and went for breakfast. The bed was comfortable, spacious and clean and the room is spacious with high ceilings. There is a bar and restaurant a minutes walk away that is reasonably priced. We got a bottle of Prosecco for €20. There is also 2 very popular bakery’s a 5 minute walk away. Great for breakfast, we spent around €5 per person. It cost €14 to get a taxi to centre and 15 mins during Saturday morning traffic (10am}. If you’ve traveled around Asia the rooms will seem very poor. I get the aesthetic is partly to keep with “Old Rome” but there were basics that didn’t look maintained such as pipe from toilet fixture leaking and the shower basin not draining. There is also only 2 plug sockets in the room, 1 by the bed the other by the radiator. The walls are very thin so bring ear plugs as you’ll hear peoples alarms go off and bin collection in the morning. If you’re traveling on a budget I think it’s a nice stay you’ll just have to factor in travel costs to and from the centre or rent a scooter.

Staff is amazing. As advertised and close to everything.
