Eulophiella

Access is on a quite rough road, which is best done by a 4x4, but such a vehicle is anyway recommended, if one also wants to visit the prime forest of the Mantadia National Park around Andasibe, one of Madagascar's top destinations. The Eulophiella Lodge, named after a Madagascar orchid, which can be seen by the entrance, is surrounded by beautiful nature, which one can discover on one's own or during a guided night walk, offered for a fee by the lodge. Check-in was easy and all the staff in general very friendly. We stayed in a Villa Deluxe all on our own with great views from the veranda with deckchairs. It had two king size beds and two washbasins in the bathroom, maybe meant for two couples staying together. Storage space in comparison is rather limited. There is an attractive restaurant, where we were seated by a fireplace, with a small, but good choice of items. Breakfast was served out on the restaurant's veranda. Only here, not in the rooms, is WiFi available. Don't expect a swimming pool. From all the accommodations in Andasibe this is probably the one in the most beautiful surroundings and with an unusual high standard.

The 5 km of bouncy off road to reach the resort worths the effort! The place is immerse in the forest, with huge and well spaced bungalows, a fancy restaurant and a detailed cured communal area. The room is clean and comfortable. The restaurant is delicious. Waking up with the sound of Indri is just amazing! Only thing to be improved is the breakfast: too expensive for the offering (croissant and bread with honey and jam with fresh fruit for 40k Ar/pp).

The approach road is difficult unless in a 4WD but when you finally decent into the valley where is Elophiella, you are in awe. A place of heavenly peace, excellent rooms, food and comfort, a place to thoroughly relax and enjoy nature at its best. In addition, the manager and staff were excellent in all respects and that made our stay perfect.

well, the picture on the webpage looked great but the reviews here were not really favourable. 4/5? Usually, that's not really great, so we were a bit uncertain what to expect. Luckily, we stuck with Eulophiella and did not get disappointed. Not sure if they changed the cook - but it was actually the best zebu we had over the course of two weeks across Madagascar. There is a well-maintained dirt road to the hotel - about 15min. If you are used to the domestic road network, you'll really appreciate it (not sure how one can describe it as "horrible" as one reviewer did). If you select the other more upscale hotels in the area, it's basically the same. The staff was helpful and kind. We enjoyed the space of a villa. Not that we needed it, but it was fantastic. The view from the balcony was really nice, and the surroundings are just beautiful. We'd go there again in a heartbeat.

What a pleasant surprise! As we were being shown our room, we exchanged surprised glances; so much better than expected, large room, huge bed, bathroom bordering on the luxurious. The Lodge is a series of individual maisonettes with surrounding porch, set in beautifully landscaped gardens, enjoying great views of the surrounding forest. Each morning we heard the eerie calls of the Indri shortly after dawn, a wonderful start to the day. We enjoyed excellent food here and the young general manager, who speaks perfect English, made helpful suggestions about local walks, including one to a nearby series of lakes where waterfowl are easily observed. Productive birdwatching was also possible from one’s private porch. Some people criticise the access road, but it was honestly in very decent condition, and the 5km distance from the main hotel area ensures privacy and silence. We had five nights here and could easily have spent more time, since we saw something new each day.

This is a perfect location for bird spotting and nature explorations. The rooms were large and pleasant, the meals were delicious and the environment was simply stunning with views and trees and many birds. The lodge runs on a generator, so that after around 10 p.m. electricity is shut off. I recommend bringing some good flashlights / emergency light to place in the room for use at night. Wifi in the rooms is limited but there is wifi at the central dining area.
