I usually avoid writing negative reviews, but my recent stay at Mövenpick Grand Al Bustan from March 30th to April 3rd, 2025 was deeply disappointing and far below expectations for a reputed hotel brand.
I had booked a four-night stay with breakfast included through Trip.com. Three days before my arrival, I used Trip.com’s offered feature to send a message to the hotel regarding my room preferences. Unfortunately, I received no response. The following day, I sent a direct email to the hotel, clearly stating my booking details and preferences. As of today, April 2nd, I still have not received any reply.
Upon arrival at 5:30 PM on March 30th, nearly three and a half hours after the designated check-in time, I was informed that my room was not ready. Additionally, none of my prior communications were acknowledged, which was incredibly frustrating. Eventually, I was provided with a clean room on the first floor—not as per my preference—and it was located on a noisy corridor with many children and guests roaming late into the night. My window view was that of a busy parking lot, and the noise from the cars persisted throughout the day.
The breakfast experience was extremely poor. The restaurant was overcrowded, unhygienic, and lacking professional service. Staff members appeared untrained and unkempt, and the food stations were messy, with several items left uncovered. I tried different timings across the first three days—08:30 AM, 07:30 AM, and even 06:45 AM—but the situation remained the same. The issue was not the crowd but the complete absence of proper service and management.
Housekeeping was another major concern. Despite activating the “green light” (please clean), my room remained untouched. I eventually asked a housekeeping staff member directly, who appeared confused about the light’s meaning. Ironically, I observed her cleaning surrounding rooms while skipping mine entirely.
To add to the frustration, I attempted to reserve a spot for their Seafood Night by email. I sent a reminder when I didn’t hear back. Again, no response. When I finally called, the lady I spoke with denied receiving any emails. Only after I insisted she check her junk folder did I finally receive a reply.
Overall, this was not the relaxing and focused stay I had hoped for. I had intended to take a short staycation to relax and work on some tech-related tasks. Instead, I was exhausted by the constant noise, unresponsive staff, and lack of professionalism across the board.
