We went to Cuba - Cayo Coco - Mojito resort (former El Senador) between Feb 08 - Feb 20, 2025 with a group of friends. We flew with Air Transat, and the flight was good. We arrived at a packed Jardines del Rey (Cayo Coco) airport (4 planes arrived about the same time), so it took a while to clear the customs and pick our luggage. However the resort is pretty close to the airport; it took us about 20-25 minutes by bus to get there (and just 10 minutes on the way back). The checkin process was pretty quick. Joel at the reception was very helpful, sharp and patient with various guests demands. He speaks English very well and he's great to chat with when he's not busy with other guests. The resort is pretty big, but there were not more than about 100 tourists. We got rooms in 2 of the buildings closest to the main attractions. We picked a room on the top floor just to avoid bugs (btw in Cuba the ground level is counted as 1st floor). The rooms do not have balconies (unless you are on the ground floor in which case there is a small patio area where you can put your chairs). Rooms are basic and dated, but large, bright, useable and pretty clean. Double beds, TV, fridge, coffee maker, safe, even bidet, but no fan in the bathroom. The faucet, fixed shower head and the tub are dated and a bit awkward to use. A few times the water pressure was low, or water was lukewarm, but it wasn't a major discomfort. We were provided soap, shower gel and shampoo; also bottled water for drinking. We were lucky we got Olga, the nicest and best maid. She did a great job on keeping the room clean and nice, and accommodate all our requests. She speaks English pretty well, so we had some pleasant conversations with her. We ended up feeling like family. We made sure we appreciated all her efforts. One of the couples who came with us they have some health challenges, so they got a special unit on the ground floor, with fixtures for reduced mobility. When you do your booking you just have to ask for that. As I already mentioned the resort is very big. Half of it had been damaged by a hurricane some years ago, and it got closed since. The Mojito half is still a sprawling complex. Just 2 or 3 of the buildings seemed populated at this time. After the checkin, we went to eat something, then we went to the beach. The beaches in Cayo Coco are the main asset. Kilometers of white floury sand, shallow waters and azure blue ocean. There are no boats going back and forth, noisy and stinky, no annoying beach peddlers, no kitschy structures. Just serenity and great weather. This place is perfect if you need some quiet corner of unspoiled beautiful nature and ocean. The ocean water does not get deep until like a hundred meters from the shore, and is clean of weeds and crystal clear. So it is perfect for both kids and adults. There are a few rocks formations, and there are some colonies of fish hanging around. Bring a snorkel to take a closer look. They are fun to watch, as they are also wa
