When I arrived (in the middle of the heatwave) I was told that because I was staying 8 nights, I was being given a room on the ground floor, as this would be cooler than a higher floor. Well, when I got to the room I discovered that I was looking out at a blank concrete wall. Not exactly the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, or herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain. But I was tired after a long journey and I wanted a nap. Just as I was getting my clothes off, a couple of people came by the window - not just a wall but a public footpath! Now I don't mind that so much, or voices in the middle of the night, but it meant that I had to have the heavy curtains closed whenever the lights were on - plus the window would only open a few inches, presumably to stop people getting in, enticed by such sights. Yes, I should have asked for a room change - I think I could have managed the heat in return for something of a view and maybe a window that opened wider. This is the British seaside after all, and there was a breeze most days, though it never found its way into my room. But after a couple of nights I'd kind of made my nest and couldn't face the trouble of moving. Looking back now, I should have asked to move. So a warning: the hotel is nice and clean, smells lovely, the staff are friendly, the bar/café is great, the location is excellent - but don't accept a room on the ground floor. Incidentally, there was no storage space - a few hangers for shirts but no drawers. I presume this is the same in all rooms. Be prepared to live out of your suitcase.
