"I recently stayed at Swissôtel Amsterdam and, unfortunately, the room was a major disappointment, especially considering the price. The room itself felt very dated and gave off more of a youth hostel vibe than a four-star hotel. It lacked the modern, comfortable feel I expected and was very underwhelming for what is marketed as a premium stay. I booked a courtyard-facing room, but there was virtually no view at all. The surrounding walls blocked almost all natural light, making the room feel dark and gloomy throughout the day. It wasn’t a pleasant space to spend any time in. The bed was also one of the most uncomfortable I’ve slept in. It consisted of two mattresses pushed together, but because of the way the bed was made, you naturally sleep in the middle. During the night, the mattresses gradually separated, leaving a gap that caused you to sink into the middle, making it difficult to get a comfortable night’s sleep. Housekeeping was another disappointment. I left my room at around 9:00 AM with the “Please Clean My Room” sign hanging outside the door, but when I returned at approximately 3:00 PM, it still hadn’t been serviced. I appreciate that housekeeping staff have a demanding job, so this isn’t directed at them personally, but the hotel clearly needs to ensure there are enough staff to meet guest expectations. I also found the front desk service frustrating. I wasn’t informed of the checkout time when I checked in, so I tried to ask at reception. On four separate occasions the front desk was unattended, and despite calling the reception number multiple times, nobody answered. It wasn’t until my final day that someone eventually picked up the phone. A hotel at this price point should have reception readily available to assist guests. The location is undoubtedly the hotel’s strongest feature and is perfect for exploring Amsterdam. However, the room quality, comfort, and overall service simply did not justify the high room rate. I left feeling that I had paid premium prices for accommodation that was well below expectations, and I wouldn’t choose to stay here again."

"GOOD: - Central location within walking distance of everything - Efficient and friendly service - Clean and spacious rooms - Good shower - Comfortable beds NOT SO GOOD: - VERY noisy from the street at night (try to get a room as high as possible and away from the street) - Breakfast menu very restricted, and really not great - Breakfast service very inconsistent - Large bathroom has empty walls with no shelf or surface, so toilet bags, makeup etc have to go on the floor! - Large bedroom has masses of empty space and RIDICULOUSLY inadequate hanging area for clothes All in all it's a decent, functional city centre hotel for very short stays, but really not for longer than a couple of nights."

"Very convenient location and easily accessible to nearby streets, restaurants, and shops. The hotel is also right next to Central Station, only about a 3-minute walk away, which makes getting around very easy. The room was comfortable and overall quite good. A pleasant and convenient stay!"

"Hotel location is very good. Near many landmarks. Room size is OK. Breakfast is satisfactory. The downside is - the building is old, stairs are narrow and there is no elevator. Obviously if you are with children or with a large suitcase, or if you have difficulty climbing stairs, this hotel is not for you."

"Only reason for the low score is due to the noise. Sounded like there was a heard of elephants above us. We were woken up numerous times by people both above and outside. Everthything else was faultless and can't say a bad word...and yes the stairs are very steep but we noticed this in other places too."

"What a wonderful experience with a wonderful host in such a historically elegant and charming home! Camilla is such an elegant and entertaining hostess with a fascinating personal history. Her art collection alone is worth the price and then there are the extravagant rooms and breakfast. The location is very convenient for public transportation as well as walking. The park across the street is beautiful and historically important (becomes clear once you visit the Rijks Museum). The rooms are well-appointed and decorated. It is like living in a historical mansion. The entry can be challenging and definitely not recommended for those who have mobility challenges. The stairs are narrow and steep—you must climb up and then back down even for the first floor (but there is a “hidden” way to get your luggage into the lower suite without navigating stairs). The breakfasts are opulent extravagant affairs fit for royalty. More food than can be humanly consumed—but fortunately, nothing goes to waste. We consider ourselves so fortunate to have experienced this B&B and hope to return before Camilla’s eventual retirement."

Kuwadro Guesthouse Centrum

"Excellent room with a private bathroom in Amsterdam's Red Light District. It's on the 3rd floor, so I recommend not bringing too much luggage to carry it up the stairs. My luggage was light, and even so, Goran helped me with it. The room has a private balcony/terrace and a shared kitchen where you can prepare some meals. We were the only guests, so we didn't share with anyone; in fact, we didn't see anyone for days. The room is cleaned daily, and you have access to cereal, coffee, and tea included in the room price. Both Johnny and Goran were very attentive to our stay, and we truly had a wonderful few days in Amsterdam. Thank you for everything!"
